Elmiron Maculopathy

Elmiron Maculopathy is currently being evaluated for a lawsuit. Dr. Katie is here to help if you have been affected.

Dr. Katie Gilbert Spear is currently evaluating claims for an Elmiron Lawsuit. There have been many recent studies that have found that patients who were prescribed and used Elmiron have developed Maculopathy, which is an eye disorder that can lead to blindness. Medical experts are now recommending that patients that used the drug Elmiron, have an ophthalmic examination for early detection of maculopathy. The manufacturer of Elmiron, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, failed to fully test the drug prior to its release. The pharmaceutical company also failed to warn patients of the dangers of using the drug – maculopathy, macular degeneration & other types of eye related damage.

What is Elmiron?

Elmiron is a drug that doctors prescribe to treat the bladder pain or discomfort of interstitial cystitis (IC). The pain can be chronic or intermittent and the condition can often lead to frequent urination. Elmiron provides relief by working itself between the wall of the bladder and providing a buffer between irritating substances and the bladder.

What Are the Symptoms of Maculopathy?

The studies from Journal of Ophthalmology have found that patents that use Elmiron have experienced the follow symptoms:

  • Difficulty reading

  • Eyes having difficulty adjusting to darkness

  • Difficulty seeing close objects

  • Vision becoming dim

  • Spot of vision lost in the field of vision
